We were sent a sample of these amazing cups and our children think they are marvellous. Each cup has a small unit in the base, the litebase, that emits a gentle nightlight glow during the hours of darkness - an inbuilt light sensor means the light goes out when daylight approaches plus an off switch means you can turn the light off at night if necessary.

These cups are great for not only comforting children at night, but also for helping them to find their water in the dark. A non-spill valve stops accidental spillages, but we have also used the cup without the valve in with no problems. To start the flow, a small suck is needed then the drink will flow out easily. Once the lips leave the rim, the cup is sealed and won't leak if knocked over.

The litebase unit is not rechargeable and uses LED's, so new units will be required once the charge is gone. This should take 3-4 months with normal use, and the light sensor and off switch help to preserve battery life. We initially couldn't understand why the litebase was not a rechargeable system and it was only when we were washing the cup up that we thought 'D'uh, water and electricity don't mix!' The base is removable so the cup can be easily washed by hand or in the top rack of the dishwasher.
